An application has been made for the Guildenford car park in Burford to be doubled in size. At present the car park has room for 166 cars. Permission has been sought to extend this by adding another 168 spaces which would mean 334 spaces in all. Some of the spaces would be at the back (east) of the existing car park in the area which is at present used from time to time for overspill parking. Most would be to the north (on the left as you enter the car park) stretching towards the mill stream and at the back of the Warwick Hall.
The car park is in heavy demand and is often full, even at this time of year, leading to frustration for visitors and residents. It is much used when events are taking place at the Warwick Hall. It is possible that there will be a footbridge from the car park into the churchyard adjacent to the Warwick Hall but this is contingent on permission from the district council, the diocese of Oxford and the Environment Agency.
Comments and objections can be made on the West Oxfordshire District Council website westoxon.gov.uk by searching for the planning reference number 19/00262/FUL. They can also be sent in writing to the council quoting the same reference. At the time of writing only one objection has been put on the site.
