Cassington Explosion - Food Waste Collections May Be Delayed

Message from WODC:

Food waste collections may be delayed for some households this week following yesterday’s explosion at Severn Trent Green Power’s recycling plant at Cassington.

Councillor Lidia Arciszewska, Executive Member for Environment at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “Residents will have heard the news about the incident at Severn Trent Green Power’s Anaerobic Digestion plant at Cassington. We’d like to assure residents that food waste collections are continuing to take place. However, as an interim measure while damage to the site is assessed, food waste from West Oxfordshire’s homes is being diverted to Severn Trent’s in-vessel composting facility at Ardley, where it will be recycled. “We are working with Ubico and our partners to keep service disruption to a minimum, however, the extra distance crews are needing to travel to tip the food waste may mean some collections this week take place later than planned. Crews will also be working later in the day to catch up on any outstanding collections. “We’d like to thank residents in advance for their patience, and should their collection not be made on their scheduled day, we’re advising residents to leave their food caddies out and crews will be by to empty them as soon as possible.”
