Does the Burford and District Society have a future?

For many years, the BDS has been part of local life, offering a programme of talks and bringing together people from our community and the surrounding area.

Like many voluntary organisations, however, we are now facing a serious challenge. Despite repeated appeals, we have been unable to recruit volunteers to fill essential committee roles.

After three years of service, Bert and I are stepping down from our roles of Chair and Secretary and we need a treasurer. Unless new people are willing to become involved, the society will have little option but to consider merging with another local organisation or closing altogether.

Before that happens, we would like to know whether there is enough interest within the community to give the society a new lease of life.

If you have enjoyed our talks and other events in the past, have recently moved to the area, or simply believe the town would benefit from keeping the society going, we would love to hear from you. Committee experience is not essential—just enthusiasm and a willingness to help.

If enough people come forward, there is every chance that this long-established society can continue. If not, it will mark the end of an organisation that has served the community for many years.
