Seven Oxfordshire providers join £2 bus fare cap scheme

Most residents will be able to travel more cheaply by bus for three months at the start of 2023, thanks to a new government scheme.

As part of the wider ‘Help for Households’ initiative, the bus fare cap will limit the price passengers will pay for an adult single fare to £2 on most routes operated by participating bus firms.

Running from 1 January until 31 March 2023, the bus providers in Oxfordshire which have opted in are:

  • Arriva

  • Oxford Bus Company

  • Redline Buses

  • Stagecoach

  • Thames Travel

  • Reading Buses

  • Thames Valley Buses

The temporary £2 bus fare cap on adult fares does not change the concessionary fare scheme or impact free travel. Services where singles already cost less than £2 are also not included, and there are some exemptions such as:

  • Dedicated school services

  • Services which only run on school days

  • Coach services including the Oxford Tube.

More details are available on the government’s website or by visiting bus providers’ websites.
