Vaccinations to Start "Early in the New Year"

Vaccinations against Covid-19 should start in our area shortly. The government is said to have set 4 January as the date when the mass vaccination programme will start and hopes to inoculate one million people per week. Hundreds of pop-up vaccine centres are due to be set up in town halls and community centres across the country and the NHS has reportedly recruited 10,000 medical staff and volunteers to help with the programme.

Vaccinations have already started in Chipping Norton, Witney and Eynsham but not yet in Burford.

Dr Vivienne Austin has written as follows on the Burford Surgery website:

I would like to reassure our patients that there is considerable work going on behind the scenes to ensure we are able to offer vaccines to our population as soon as possible. The roll out has been staggered due to a number of factors relating to proportion of elderly population and vaccine delivery. As such some neighbouring areas may have already started their vaccination programme. We hope to start vaccinating early in the New Year. We will be in contact directly with eligible patients so that it can be offered to our most at-risk patients first. We request that you please be patient and do not call the surgery to enquire about booking your vaccine until you have been called.
