Unfortunately, Peter Higgs has been forced to step down as mayor for health reasons. An operation is imminent to restore him to full health and we both wish him well while thanking him for four years dedicated service to Burford as the town mayor.

At the Wednesday evening council meeting, 10th September, Derek Cotterill was elected Mayor to continue for this municipal year till May 2026 when the next normal annual election will be held. Derek has been a town councillor since the millennium so does have knowledge about how the town works and its people. He has photographed many of them for the millennium albums and the 2019 book 'Burford and its soul'. There will be no dramatic change of policy as Derek was working closely with Peter, the county and district councillors to resolve coach parking problems, augment car parking capacity and reduce the risk of flooding. He will be supported by able councillors progressing climate change policies, recreation ground management etc and the many other tasks undertaken by your town council.

The period September to Christmas brings many social events to the town so that opportunity will exist for all to circulate and meet the entire town council.
