You may know that Burford Town Council is trying to restrict parking for coaches in Priory Lane to vehicles of not more than 12 metres in length. They also want to turn the space closest to the Priory wall into a" turning only" space, thus preventing coaches from blocking the entrance gates to the Priory. To achieve this they need to get a traffic restriction order (TRO) from the county council.
OCC have now put this proposal out for consultation. (Please read on - don't stop there). If BTC are going to secure the TRO, it will be essential to show that their application has widespread support from local residents.
The coach operators have already made strong objections on such grounds as that a reduction in the number of visitors to Burford would cause damage to the local economy, increase unemployment and reduce the "vibrancy" of the town. We must say we are impressed by the selfless concern that they are showing for the welfare of the community. Only the vilest cynic could suggest that their real motive is to protect their own profits by maximising the number of visitors who pay them to come here.
If you support BTC on this, please reply to the consultation which you can access from the link below. This has to be done by 5pm on 5 January. It doesn't take long to complete. It also covers some other tweaks that BTC are hoping to make, including having a pedestrian crossing at the top of The Hill.
If you are opposed to the restriction on coaches, you are probably a coach operator and will already have given your views.
