Three Horseshoes up for sale

Writer: Gordon ElliotGordon Elliot

MailOnline is reporting that the Three Horseshoes pub in Asthall (formerly the Maytime Inn) is up for sale.

They seek to establish a connection between this and the opening of Jeremy Clarkson's Farmer's Dog not far away by the Asthall Barrow roundabout, suggesting that the great success of the latter has taken customers away from the older pub. They sent a reporter to both one lunchtime and he said that the Farmer's Dog was heaving with people while there were only five customers in the Three Horseshoes.

That may be so but we suspect that the two pubs have quite different demographics. We wonder whether the legions of Clarkson fans at the Farmer's Dog - perhaps drawn from the ranks of his 8 million followers on X/Twitter - have much in common with those who go for a quiet drink and something to eat at the Three Horseshoes.
